16-Minutes was developed as a form of public intervention created during the artist’s FT5 Residency in Fukuoka, Japan. For a weekend Anida held an Open Studio to have conversations with working mothers about their current situation raising children and maintaining a career in Japan. Many mothers revealed places in Fukuoka that they feel most unwelcomed especially when traveling with their children. These sites include subway stations, restaurants, and museums/galleries. Based on this research and in honor of these mothers who took the time to talk, Studio Revolt and the artist staged a series of public interventions documented through photography and video. Each intervention at each site lasted 16-minutes long.
16 minutes is the current statistic (as of 2014) of how long Japanese fathers spend on average with their children per day.
